NEW DELHI: Hero MotoCorp dispatched 7,66,348 two-wheelers in September 2026, 11.51 per cent more than the 6,87,220 it sent out a year earlier, with its scooter sales jumping by nearly two-thirds, according to the company's figures reported on October 1.
Hero's motorcycle dispatches rose 6.35 per cent to 6,65,994. Scooters rose 64.51 per cent, to 1,00,354 from 61,003. Domestic dispatches grew 14.12 per cent to 7,39,018, while exports fell 31.05 per cent to 27,330 from 39,638.
For the first half of the financial year, April to September, Hero has dispatched 35,45,475 two-wheelers, up 15.95 per cent. Its scooter dispatches over the six months rose 69.39 per cent to 4,32,810, and domestic dispatches 16.41 per cent to 33,54,833, while its exports for the half-year rose 8.32 per cent to 1,90,642.
Registration figures from the government's Vahan portal, which count vehicles registered by buyers rather than dispatched to dealers, give a different order. In September, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India led the mass-market segment with 4,67,687 registrations, up 4.1 per cent from August, followed by Hero with 4,33,968, up 4.5 per cent, CarHP reported. TVS Motor had 3,64,261, up 2.4 per cent, and Bajaj Auto 1,65,981, up 4.9 per cent. Suzuki registered 1,01,586, down 3 per cent, and Yamaha 64,046, while Piaggio registered 3,766. The mass-market segment as a whole registered 16,01,295 vehicles, up 3.4 per cent from August.
The gap between Hero's domestic dispatches of 7,39,018 and its 4,33,968 registrations reflects the difference between what manufacturers send to dealers and what customers register in the same month.
In the premium segment, Royal Enfield registered 1,01,831 motorcycles, up 5.3 per cent from August, out of a segment total of 1,07,213. Classic Legends registered 4,568, and Kawasaki, BMW and Ducati a few hundred or fewer each.
Among the electric two-wheeler companies listed separately, Ather Energy led with 30,479 registrations, up 4.9 per cent from August. Ola Electric registered 13,449, down 3.5 per cent, and Greaves Electric Mobility 9,314, up 8 per cent. River Mobility registered 5,549, Simple Energy 1,349, down 18.9 per cent, and Ultraviolette 535. The segment total was 60,675, up 2.6 per cent. CarHP's electric list did not include TVS or Bajaj, whose electric scooters are reported by the companies themselves: TVS said it dispatched 65,799 electric two-wheelers in September, up 110 per cent from a year earlier.
Simple Energy's registrations fell in the month in which it raised ₹1,750 crore in new funding to expand production.
A month earlier, TVS Motor had topped the dispatch tables. In August, TVS dispatched 5,91,437 two-wheelers, its highest monthly total, ahead of Honda's 5,79,162 and Hero's 5,68,398, Autocar India reported. TVS's electric two-wheeler sales in August rose 137 per cent to 59,453. Bajaj dispatched 4,43,748 two-wheelers, with exports up 53 per cent, and Royal Enfield 1,26,479.
TVS Motor dispatched 6,72,790 vehicles in September, up 24 per cent, including 6,45,955 two-wheelers, up 23 per cent. Its domestic two-wheeler dispatches rose 17 per cent to 4,82,073, and its overseas two-wheeler shipments 48 per cent to 1,63,882, the company said. TVS also sold 26,835 three-wheelers, up 57 per cent. In the July-September quarter, TVS sold 1.8 million two-wheelers, up 27 per cent, and 1,86,000 electric two-wheelers, up 133 per cent.
Bajaj Auto sold 4,51,494 two-wheelers in September, up 5 per cent, the Free Press Journal reported. Its domestic two-wheeler sales fell 12 per cent to 2,39,771, while exports rose 34 per cent to 2,11,723, so that nearly half of its two-wheelers went abroad. Including commercial vehicles, Bajaj's total sales were 5,38,443, up 5 per cent, with commercial vehicles up 9 per cent to 86,949.
Hero's 7.66 lakh in September puts it well ahead of its own August figure of 5.68 lakh as the festive season begins, and ahead of TVS's 6.46 lakh two-wheelers.
