MP Cabinet Clears ₹24,500 Crore of Proposals and 20% Reservation for Agniveers in Police, Forest and Jail Posts

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday, September 29, approved development and welfare proposals worth more than ₹24,500 crore and cleared a 20 per cent reservation for Agniveers in recruitment to five of the state's uniformed services.

The meeting at the Mantralaya in Bhopal was chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, The Hitavada and The NewsMill reported. Minister of Micro and Small Industries Chaitanya Kashyap briefed reporters afterwards, according to Patrika.

The cabinet approved a 20 per cent horizontal reservation for Agniveers in recruitment to the posts of police constable, Special Armed Force, jail guard, forest guard and excise constable. Agniveers are soldiers recruited to the armed forces for a fixed term under the Agnipath scheme. Separate provisions for Home Guards and ex-servicemen will continue, The Hitavada reported. The reports did not say whether age limits would be relaxed.

The largest single item was ₹5,329.17 crore to continue the honorarium scheme for guest teachers for five years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31. It covers more than 76,000 guest teachers in government schools. The cabinet also approved ₹348.07 crore for uniform assistance, paid by direct benefit transfer, to students of Classes 1 to 8 in 2026-27.

Patrika reported that the School Education Department had completed more than 900 pending appointments on compassionate grounds.

The cabinet approved ₹4,470.30 crore for a 105.10-km four-lane road between Damoh and Katni, to be built under the hybrid annuity model.

For health, it approved ₹3,245.80 crore for three schemes running until March 2031. Of this, ₹3,113.27 crore is for building community health centres, primary health centres and sub-health centres, ₹20.90 crore for strengthening drug regulation and ₹111.63 crore for drug control. Separately, ₹372.12 crore was approved to expand Singrauli District Hospital from 450 to 605 beds, and ₹953.69 crore for a hospital at the Chhindwara Institute of Medical Sciences.

The cabinet also approved ₹358.22 crore for the Kanh diversion project in Ujjain, a 30.15-km underground tunnel meant to control pollution in the Kshipra river. Patrika reported that about 51 per cent of the tunnel is complete.

The cabinet approved ₹3,580.22 crore for the Rural Development Fund for 2026-27 to 2030-31. The money comes from a cess collected on land transfers and will pay for infrastructure built through the three tiers of panchayats, particularly at the janpad and district panchayat levels, Indian Masterminds reported.

For the courts, the cabinet approved ₹1,342.48 crore to continue 14 schemes of the Law and Legislative Affairs Department from 2026-27 to 2030-31. These include ₹372 crore for High Court buildings, ₹357.77 crore for the Advocate General's office and ₹200 crore for a building for the State Judicial Academy. It also approved ₹622.37 crore for the salaries, allowances and travel of process servers in subordinate courts across the state, and ₹691.01 crore to pay outstanding liabilities on court buildings built under centrally sponsored schemes, according to Indian Masterminds.

Other approvals included ₹2.41 crore for 12 new handloom office posts in Mauganj, Chhindwara, Maihar and Tikamgarh, The Hitavada reported. Patrika reported that hostels for denotified, nomadic and semi-nomadic communities will get grain at ₹1 a kilo. Its report also noted that 19 sites in Madhya Pradesh, including the Bagh caves paintings, Ginnaurgarh Fort, the temples of the Chambal valley and the Udayagiri caves, are on India's UNESCO tentative list of 78 sites.
